Demopolis Catfish Update Meetings
The Aquaculture and Fisheries Business Institute (AFBI) and the Auburn University School of Fisheries Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (SFAAS) have conducted the Annual Catfish Update Meeting in Demopolis, Alabama since 2012. These meetings are to inform our Catfish Growers, Feed Millers, Processors, and other associated businesses about our research results and Extension activities. Aquaculture research involves searching for solutions to disease issues, improving feeds, new production systems, water quality issues, fish genetics to improve strains and the economics of the these research items.
Each year this meeting highlights a portion of the Pond to Plate value chain. Past meetings have focused on catfish production, promotion, restaurants, catfish cuisine/recipes, fish health and recognition for leaders in the industry who are working in areas that range from fish propagation, grow out, harvesting, processing, distribution, final outlets and consumption.
