Fisheries Management/Ecology

Science-based management practices are critical to sustaining the world’s freshwater and marine fish and shellfish populations that are prized for their recreational, commercial and nutritional value. Working in aquatic systems ranging from small ponds to the Gulf of Mexico, our faculty conduct both applied and basic research in the areas of:

  • Traditional and novel management strategies for ponds, reservoirs and rivers
  • Artificial reef construction and coastal fisheries
  • Stock assessments
  • Population dynamics of targeted species and other members of their aquatic systems
  • Human interactions with and potential impact on all types of fisheries
